The first time I saw you light a cigarette, I asked you why. You said it was stress. Now I know that was a lie. You light a cigarette to forget. You light it to give yourself something to do with the time everyone passes by you, too intimidated to compliment you. You light one as an excuse to not talk, resorting to nodding and glancing furtively at the bar, trying to find someone who isn’t there.
